SQUAT HOLD
The squat hold is an isometric hold at the bottom of a squat and an effective way to improve hip flexibility. Sit down into a squat position with the elbows just inside the knees, keeping the feet straight, sinking your way down to your heels. Try keeping your back straight/upright. If you notice it’s rounding, sit up a bit in order to maintain proper posture. You can use your elbows to drive your knees outward increasing the stretch on the adductors.
Squats engage and strengthen the abdominal and back muscles. These muscle groups stabilize the body, helping you maintain proper balance. Squats also help prevent injury by improving joint flexibility and range of motion in your hips, ankles and knees.
Perform these exercises three or four times a week, before and/or after a workout to increase mobility. The key to any good stretch is breathing. Breathing during stretching helps you relax, which in turn, allows you to increase the intensity of your stretch. It also helps increase circulation, providing oxygenated blood to your muscles. Never stretch beyond the level at which you feel comfortable. If at any time you discomfort and/or pain, you should discontinue the stretch immediately.
